|
| My character is leaving
Singapore to go back home to France and he's bringing his new Malay
girlfriend with him. However, she has a boyfriend wo wants to get
married with her. The three of us meet in a park and she breaks up with
him. As if that wasn't enough, I give him the keys to my condo and tell
him to look after it until it's sold!
| Sayembara Cerpen
|
| Above are some stills of me
acting in my first Malay role, Saymebara Cerpen. I play an unfaithful
American with HIV married to a Malay woman in Singapore. Although I
become a reformed and devout Muslim, I die a slow death in the end.
Broadcast December 2001 on Suria. Re-runs have been shown every December since then around Hari Raya. Directed by Azroy Sultan.
Thanks to Azroy for his late nights of not only acting lessons but Malay lessons!

In this series, sponsored by the Singapore Police, I play the role of
an American graduate student (in anthropology) studying in Singapore,
throughout five episodes. I get to know a local Malay girl (also a
student, and played by Suhaila), and we talk about getting married.
Contrary to stereotypes, I turn out to be the conservative type and she
isn't, and things don't work out between us.
This very successful drama, directed by Azroy Sultan, was brodcast on
Suria in April of 2002. It was rebroadcast June 30 2002 and January
2005.

Acting alongside Salih Yaccob (right) Era Faridah, Didie Alias (center)
and Rozita Abu, I play the role of a resort owner in Sarawak, East
Malaysia. My wife (Didie Alias) and I invite Jon (Salih Yaccob) to our
resort in order to hook him up with Mona (Era Faridah). But Jon brings
his girlfriend, Bid, along (Rozita Abu). That's when the real comedy
begins...
Released on VCD in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore 3 December, 2002.
